This is a photo of the original band performing at the 50th Wedding Anniversary for Wasco pioneers great grand parents Loran & Ona Grant at Cormack Park. Loran rode on a bicycle from Los Angeles arriving in 1910 here at Deweyville before it was called Wasco. He built a house and then went to Nebraska to marry his sweetheart. The newlyweds then came to (Deweyville) Wasco where they started their married lives together.
The band members were Merle Grant ('44) their daughter-in-law playing piano, Loran Grant ('40) their son paying the trombone, Sterling Grant ('39) their other son on the trumpet, classmate Frank Gafner ('39) bass, and family friend Howard Hammond playing drums, a graduate of Delano High. Unfortunately, no recordings were ever done. They typically played dixeland jazz music at many community events.
